The SMPTE (Society of Motion Picture Television Engineers) has been adopted VC-1 (SMPTE 421M-2006) as a mandatory video format for HD DVD and Blu-ray. Main Concept Reference VC-1 for the Main Concept Reference application offers fast encoding and decoding speeds. It supports the Advanced Profile, and all levels. In addition, the plug-in features MainConcept's extraordinary quality. The software offers configurable bit rate control, editable GOP structure as well as configurable motion estimation. The plug-in offers a simple as well as a professional interface. The latter enables experts to perfect video streams by adjusting a great number of settings and parameters. It also includes the MainConcept VC-1 Decoder, enabling playback of VC-1 files in Windows Media Player and other compatible programs. In contrast to the Pro version Reference VC-1 offers a limited set of features, such as a single instance at the time only, support for just one physical CPU, availability only for ConstQ and VBR rate control modes, and a maximum bitrate up to 20 MBit per second. MainConcept Reference VC-1 can only be used when the MainConcept Reference application is installed (not included).
The demo version of the MainConcept Reference is a kind of basic application which includes the most important MainConcept codecs as a demo. You can test the power of the codecs the way you already know from the popular MPEG Encoder and H.264 Encoder application, i.e. only a watermark is added to the converted clips. The available demo codecs in MainConcept Reference are the following:
- MPEG-1 and MPEG-2
- H.264/AVC (MPEG-4 Part 10)
- H.264/AVC (MPEG-4 Part 10) Pro
- VC-1 Consumer Version
- VC-1 Professional Version
- DVCPRO 25/50
- DVCPRO 100 (HD)
- JPEG2000
