Cineform NEO 3D - N5145
Stereo (3D) Editorial Workflow for Mac and Windows
CineForm's Neo3D delivers a comprehensive 3D editorial workflow on both Mac and Windows to improve efficiency and reduce end-to-end costs for creating 3D content. Neo3D is compatible with most NLE and effects software that support QuickTime or AVI files such as Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro, Sony Vegas, After Effects, and others. During editorial, Neo3D allows for choosing 3D display modes for an external monitor, real-time adjustment of convergence (horizontal, vertical, rotation), keystoning, and color controls, all performed in real time and implemented as Active Metadata.
With Neo3D you get:
- Full 3D editorial workflow: CineForm 3D files are editable in Final Cut Pro on Mac, Premiere Pro on Windows, or other common industry tools in the same manner as any CineForm 2D file.
- First LightTM 3D: the heart of Neo3D. All 2D and 3D adjustments are implemented as Active Metadata under control of First Light. The First Light application is kept active during editorial and allows adjustments of 2D and 3D Active Metadata parameters.
- Display Support for most 3D monitors: Real-time assembly into various 3D presentation formats during 3D decode: dual-link stereo (Mac only), side-by-side, over-under, field interlace, or anaglyph. Allows use of inexpensive consumer monitors and glasses for 3D editorial.
- Real-time Convergence Adjustment: Adjustments forhorizontal, vertical or rotational offsets between Left and Right eyes are applied in real time during 3D decode based on Active Metadata parameters. Convergence adjustment in editorial can save substantial labor and equipment dollars normally spent on 3D conform.
- Keystoning Adjustment: Allows correction for camera toe-in/out
- Stereo or Individual Eye Color Adjustment: Active Metadata controls adjust color parameters (white balance, RGB matrix, 3D LUTs) for both eyes simultaneously or individual eyes.
- Image Flip: Horizontal or vertical image flip on individual eyes corrects for beam-splitter image inversion.
- 3D file creation: Convert most camera or file-based sources into CineForm stereo files.
- Includes Neo 4K: Neo3D includes all the 2D editorial and file creation features included in Neo4K to simplify associated 2D file creation.
Note: Prospect3D is available for Windows users of CS3 and CS4 only. All others should use Neo3D. See details on the Features page
Neo3D - The Basics: The underpinning of Neo3D is the creation and use of a CineForm 3D QuickTime or AVI file that contain temporally-aligned Left and Right eyes. Each eye contains full spatial resolution suitable for online workflows. CineForm 3D files are created such that they are interpreted by all QuickTime or AVI applications as if they were traditional 2D files. This allows virtually all MOV and AVI compatible applications to edit CineForm's stereo files. This "trickery" to the calling application happens beneath the QuickTime or DirectShow layers where CineForms Neo3D blends Left and Right eye information in into 3D HD frames which are passed to (and through) the calling application without its knowledge.
Neo3D includes the following software components:
- CineForm codec with Active Metadata processor
- First Light 3D. End-user application to:
- multiplex independent Left/Right eye CineForm files into stereo CineForm files
- adjust non-destructive Active Metadata color parameters,
- adjust convergence controls,
- define 3D display format: side-by-side, over-under, fields, anaglyph or dual-stream (HD-SDI) stereo playout
- HD Link (Windows) or ReMaster (Mac). End-user application to manage 2D file capture and conversion to CineForm files from various formats. Allows selection of image pre-processing algorithms during conversion (spatial resampling, telecine removal, etc).
- R2CF (Windows)*. Command-line conversion utility for Red One source formats
- DPX2CF and CF2DPX (Windows)*. Command-line conversion utilities between CineForm files and DPX files.
* Included in ReMaster on Mac.
Neo3D Workflow Features - Online Stereo Editorial for Mac (Final Cut Pro, others) and Win (Premiere Pro, others)
- OS Compatibility:
- Mac: OS 10.5 or later
- Win: Windows XP, Vista, 7 (either 32-bit or 64-bit)
- 3D Chroma Formats:
- 10-bit 4:2:2
- 12-bit 4:4:4
- 12-bit CineForm RAW
- Spatial resolution: Unrestricted. As a practical matter up to 4K for each eye.
- File Compatibility: MOV, AVI
- CineForm 3D File Creation:
- First Step: Individual encoding of Left eye and Right eye sources into 2D CineForm files;
- Second Step: using First Light 3D, multiplex individual eyes into a CineForm stereo stream.
- Active Metadata processor: during decode, apply:
- i) stereo and/or individual eye color parameters,
- ii) convergence controls (horizontal, vertical, rotational),
- iii) auto zoom
- iv) keystoning adjustments
- v) image flip
- vi) selection of stereo format (dual-stream stereo (HD-SDI) playout, side-by-side, over-under, field interlace, or anaglyph) for 3D monitor. Active Metadata parameters are adjusted using First Light 3D.
- Editorial using Final Cut Pro (Mac), Premiere Pro (Win), or others:
- Real-time Full framerate playout as user-selectable 2D or 3D format
- Real-time Active Metadata processing for color adjustments and 3D controls
- Some feature differences between different NLEs and platforms:
- FCP/Mac: Kona is recommended for playback for improved performance.
- PPro/Win: Xena not yet supported for through the PPro timeline in CS4, but it is supported for CS3.
- - During render CineForm 3D files are properly recreated
- Neo4K workflow compatibility: All Neo4K workflow features are supported by Neo3D. Please see Neo4K for additional details.
- Platform Differences: Certain differences exist between OS platforms and NLE applications:
- FCP/Mac - Neo3D: HD-SDI playout is supported through AJA Kona family cards, including dual-stream stereo playout with Kona 3
- PPro-CS3/Win - Use Prospect3D: Single-link HD-SDI monitoring is supported using AJA Xena when using Prospect3D. Dual-stream stereo playout is not yet supported on Win. Also includes CineForm's real-time engine for CS3 with real-time effects, transitions, etc.
- PPro-CS4 - Use Prospect3D: CineForm's real-time engine for CS4 is still pending. In the mean time Prospect3D's supports for CS4 is fully compatible but with fewer real-time features than is available using the RT engine with CS3. HD-SDI will be supported in CS4 when the real-time engine become available.
